well, i finally got a chance to discuss religion with a jw at the door.
i have been looking forward to it for a long time, now i know what questions to ask that will cause them to eat their reasoning book in panic.
but no, there was no long in depth bible discussion.
My belief is that it is futile to discuss religion with the brain-washed (or brain-dead).
If someone really, really, believed what they were preaching they would be only too happy to share their good news (however wacko it might be). Perhaps your experience reveals that the dubs now, more than ever, are just going through the motions. Their highest hope is probably 'not at home'.

She is an atheist and is as cynical and sceptical about religion as I am. She (like most people) knew nothing of JWs, viewing them as mildly weird people who pestered people on their doorsteps. We've had some good conversations where I've shared what I know about the truth about this dangerous and destructive cult.
As we were talking she looked out of the window and noticed some dubs working their way up her street. I tried to think quickly of something she could use when they got to her door. Pyramids? 1914/1918/1975? Blood? Christmas celebrations? Creation and mankind being 6,500 years old? Beth Sarim? Post-armageddon survivors burying 1,000 corpses each? Divine radiation?
All of these thoughts and more ran through my mind - but were dismissed. She and I went to our fall-back position, which is that it is futile to try and discuss religion with the brainwashed.
As it turned out, they didn't knock at her door. Maybe their 'territory records' have a note that the pink-haired, pink DM wearing, elderly lady in a wheelchair is beyond redemption ...
well.....i am now officially on the precipice of divorce.
it started last tuesday night.
my wife brings the kids home at 10:00 pm after the meeting....then dinner....then ice cream.

i am, as i always start my posts by saying, not a current or an ex-jw.. i rarely contirbute to threads where the topic of discussion is about the current feelings of jws trapped in, or their past experiences because i just don't have the personal knowledge to share.
i can empathise, but not from personal experience, if you know what i mean.. many new posters, it seems to me, are exiting jwdom and are nervous because of jw teachings about inter-acting with us non-jws, us 'worldly' people.. so, it seems to me, that if by normal interaction, i can assist in showing that us 'worldly' people are not so bad it might just help someone sometime.. and, as ever, if i can be of practical assistance in real life, happy to do so..

what is frustrating to me is that even if the wbts and silentlambs, attorneys and parents who have been contacted before law enforcement of sex abuse disclosures were to pick up their phones immediately and call the police to report alleged sex abuse, there is still a huge amount of hurdles to clear before an alleged abuser will be brought to justice.
investigations gathering evidence that is deemed to be prosecutable can take months.
diliberations by district attorneys before a judge can take months.
There are wide variations in procedures in different jurisdictions.
In England & Wales, for example, police officers do not need warrants to arrest suspects, and there are strict time limits between a defendant being charged and appearing in court. We don't have protracted jury selection procedures. Judges are not involved in deliberations with prosecutors or defenders before trial. The normal procedure (if the job is done right) is that the victim tells their story once (recorded) and is not available for interview by the defence. Then the support can start right away. Also in E&W there are very strict rules on media reporting before and while the trial is ongoing. We don't have prosecutors giving press interviews (they are not elected).

It's all a bit weirder when you read it again. The sound of banjos resonates. 7 years' work for a bonk, and then it's the wrong woman? Then another 7 years to bonk the right one? Was she still as beautiful 14 years after he met her? Maybe this was a generic warning from God to men - work your balls off and even then you won't get to bonk the woman you really want to - or if you do, she'll be just as knackered as you are by the time you finally get round to it.
I do have a genuine reason for asking for this ref. All will be revealed.

There was a bloke in the OT (Jacob?) who saw a woman and fancied her (Rachel?) and wanted to marry her. He worked for her dad for 7 years but ended up with her sister (Leah?) 'cos she was older and had to work another 7 years to get the sister he really wanted.
Yes, I know it sounds crazy but that's the story.

I wonder if WTBTS has taken a calculated gamble in publishing this.
On one hand they MUST be aware of the effect of the internet and just how easy it is to research stuff nowadays - and no doubt they are well aware of JWN and similar sites. They can't ignore that.
On the other hand, maybe they have calculated that by publishing this they will be seen by the 'faithful' (aka 'gullible') to be open to enquiry and research and confident that they will still be seen to have 'The Truth'. Always bearing in mind, of course, the over-riding WTBTS mantra 'You don't need to do research, we've done it for you'.
Or it could, of course, be sabotage by an 'insider' apostate!
(I did notice the 'conditioning' bit in the first sentence about 'deception'. Emotional crutches can be real.)
i'm wondering how they feel about their likeness being spammed all over the internet right now?
i'll bet they didn't sign up for this kind of attention.. it reminds me of an article wired magazine did on youtube a couple years ago about people that had their careers or social life ruined by a viral youtube video.. anyway, it would be interesting to find out who these guys are and what may or may not end up happening with them over this..
